Hubby and I like to sing this song and add in our 2 cents. It makes for a pretty funny song!Jacquiehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08553393448609283633noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7442789263260856116.post-19837616431807940002011-12-18T18:42:00.000-08:002011-12-18T19:52:51.729-08:00Our Nest is BlessedOur Nest is Blessed. It has been busy these last few weeks tying our nursery together. To save money, we've decided to paint the walls ourselves. To some, this is a no-brainer. Not in our home. Needless to say, my husband doesn't paint. And I don't mean on canvas. I was going to go along with the pay the painter idea...but then I started thinking about all of the "extras" I wanted in the nursery...and that is adding up! So, I have taken it upon myself to paint the walls. This has been a task, but I think baby Davis will be proud of his/her Mama. And yes- the walls are now painted, thanks to Mama. <br />
<br />
Trying to get to the fun part now! All of the "extras"! The chandelier, the curtains, the bedding, the artwork, throw pillows, etc. We are fortunate that our parents have helped with most of the furniture purchased in the room. Kevin and I mainly needed to take care of the fabric glider. Boy, was he not expecting a big price tag for that. I convinced him that it would be a nursery necessity...and it is. Hopefully, it was last us through multiples. :) He said this is my "push present." We'll see about that after I push his baby out!! Most of the "extras" are ready in the room. BUT we are still waiting on our bedding and glider to come in. Carpet has been replaced, wainscotting installed and painted (by me), crib assembled (by Kevin), furniture in place (thanks to our helpful friends). Now selections needed for lighting, artwork, rug and curtains. It has been so hard making decisions for this nursery because we've decided to wait to see if Charlie Patrick or Natalie Sophia will be making an entrance in January! Normally, I'd have this all figured out. I don't want a nursery too girlie....or too boy-ish in fear Baby Davis will be the opposite. I must admit, my eye for decor is more drawn to the girlie stuff. If I'd only had a clue. I don't want to share photos of the nursery until I have most of it pulled together. <br />
<br />
So, this is what I've been looking at for artwork. I would never dream of paying for artwork, because I love doing it myself...but man have I been tempted until I found this blog. I've had my eye set on this below. Too girlie? Kev thinks so. But it's sweet, and babies are sweet. The price tag is what is holding me back. $250! Way too expensive, especially for someone like me that should paint for her own first born's nursery! Not sure if this is the route I will go, but here is an AMAZING DIY tutorial that I found to make this similiar bird painting all on my own. Even if I decide not to use this Birdie painting on canvas, it is absolutely worth sharing!!!! And best of all, I'd save so much!!! See instructions here: <a href="http://thatvillagehouse.blogspot.com/2010/07/colorful-bird-canvas.html">http://thatvillagehouse.blogspot.com/2010/07/colorful-bird-canvas.html</a><br />

Decisions, decisions. What do you think? Too girlie? Even if I change up colors? Maybe it will be Natalie Sophia. :) And you know how obsessed I am with birds. If only I could steal that Nest Chandelier I made for my sister last year to tie it all together....just kidding, Tina. Not sure if I'm quite up for that project again at this point. In case you need a reminder about that one....here was my finished product. Find a DIY turtorial from my January 2011 post. I'll be sharing it all from the finished nursery soon enough. Let's just hope it's finished before January in time for Baby Davis's arrival! I can't believe it's been over 2 months since my last post! Life has been BUSY! And it's not going to slow down once Baby Davis "buttabean" arrives! These last 33 weeks have flown by! I hope everyone had a blessed Thanksgiving. Looking forward to sharing our nursery decor for baby Charlie (Charles) Patrick or Natalie Sophia over the next several weeks. It's coming along. Well, right now...my house is a disaster while we have our flooring replaced- including in the nursery, spare bedrom, and our bedroom. Nothing like last minute in our household! Hopefully, furniture will be put back into place within the next week...or two, tree decorated and nursery finished! Then I can relax! Let the "nesting" phase continue! <br />
<br />
Looking forward to enjoying the Holiday this Christmas. I feel so blessed being pregnant this time of year. Not just because the weather has cooled off, but it just puts life and the season into perspective. From our Nest to yours, Happy Holidays!<br />

I really enjoyed painting this nursery! I liked that it was something, different...for a lack of better words. The shape of the tree is not something that I typically would have picked at a glance. Boy was I wrong! I'm lovin' it! And I loved the colors! That's the reason why I love this hobby; it allows me to paint outside the box! <br />
Congrats Seana and Adam! Garrett is adorable! I can't wait to see him in person and hear about all of the great moments since his grand entrance! <br />

I love it! She is using the "Ben" bedding collection from Serena and Lily for their sweet baby boy. LOVE, LOVE the aqua and orange color scheme. She also painted the back wall of the room a dark teal/blue color that just makes the colors in the room POP! I am painting a tree near the crib inspired by the tree pictured below. Her husband also found these adorable wooden monkeys and an owl to hang from the tree. Can't wait to see it all together and show you all of the extras in the room. Orange Crush super fabulous rug on top of the list! Everything just flows without being matchy, matchy. -LOVE- On a side note, she is due TODAY! Must get the room finished ASAP!<br />

I could look at these blogs and ideas for hours....if only I had more time to work on my projects! Check out these do it yourself instructions for refinishing furniture that I found on Pawleys Island Posh's blog <a href="http://pawleysislandposh.blogspot.com/">http://pawleysislandposh.blogspot.com/</a> My prior blog post showed an example of one of my pieces after following her instructions (minus that bottle of wine...at least for the next 6 months!) wink, wink! I wish I had my Before photos...still trying to pry those from my sister. But you may have remembered the After photos. Here's another peek. Be sure to check out some of the other blogs that I follow. Sure to give you an inspiration to start that project!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Rsd4UI4hdmA/TiI2bhq8UMI/AAAAAAAAAIg/4Cm9_PuX5Mo/s1600/furn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" m$="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Rsd4UI4hdmA/TiI2bhq8UMI/AAAAAAAAAIg/4Cm9_PuX5Mo/s320/furn.jpg" width="240" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step 1</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">move dresser outside and take drawers out</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step 2</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">lightly sand using an electric sander. </div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The more you sand the better, but I just did it lightly to get all the shellac finish and wax off because I'm not that strong and my arms started hurting before I got off the dark stain</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">dust off </div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step 3</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">paint the entire thing using a pretty medium thick coat</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Not exactly dry brushed but not globbed on either</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step 4</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">drink a glass of wine while it's drying</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">You'll find you actually have time for more than one glass but I wouldn't suggest it as it may interfere with the next several steps</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step 5</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">take a piece of sand paper and with a very light hand rough up your paint job a bit</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">It's especially nice to remove all the paint in the corners or crevices</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">dust off</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step 6</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Go ahead and pour another glass to enjoy during the next step</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step 7</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Using a lint free white cloth (you can buy them at Home Depot or Lowe's in the painting section) dip into a can of briwax in dark walnut</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Working in one section at a time, wipe the corners and crevices with wax</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">then wipe the rest of your section following with the grain of the wood</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">take a second rag and wipe away any excess.</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Continue with this method until you've finished the entire piece</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">I find it easiest to work from the top down and to do each of the drawers while they're still free standing</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Step 8</div><div style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Finish that bottle of wine while it's drying<br />

It brings a sense of peace and relaxation. I helped with some of the extras in Lori's nursery. I loved the color she picked out for the wall. A light gray-blue-green color. Her baby's bedding is white with slashes of red in the pattern. We decided to leave the walls alone, and spruce up the room with a few extras. I really loved her color scheme. We decided to refinish an outdated nightstand and replace the lighting in the room! Yep, another chandelier in store for me! This is the first time I actually refinished a piece of furniture. With a little advice from a highschool friend and a bunch of googling....this project turn out fabulous!! I really love the new nightstand. It makes me want to refinish every piece of furniture in my house! I will admit that the sanding part is NOT fun! My back is somewhat sore. But You Can Do It! Just put your back (or elbow) into it! Next time I will invest in an eletric sander. The next blog will be a "how-to", so you folks can try it at home! <br />
As far as the chandelier goes, the room needed a pop of red. So the chandelier was painted red! I love the cute white shades with the miniature red balls (for lack of a better word) hanging from them! Lori originally sent me a photo of curtains with larger (balls) hanging from them, so I knew she would like the shades on the chandelier! It really came together quite nicely! She decided not to find out the sex of the baby, and I think this color scheme was perfect for just that! A real nice surprise Clark! Ok- yes I'm tired! Enjoy the pics! There seems to be 100+ projects we want, or should start. Slowly we have tried to improve our home, rooms and yard with "mini projects". Why stress ourselves out and our wallets with everything all at once?! I've been most impressed with our guest bathroom. The bathrooms in our home were so outdated. Next year we will tackle the master bath. But take a peak at the hallway guest bathroom. We found this great sink vanity at a Celadon Warehouse sale. What a great find at a 1/3 of the price! It has a rustic feel to it. The vision was based around the sink vanity and everything else fell into place. One of our great friends, Kendall helped us replace the old vinyl floor with slate colored tile. It looks great! Thanks Kendall! Next we had the new commode and sink vanity installed (with help of course). Kev is handy, when it comes to calling the experts! ;) Next I found a great sale on the shower curtain at pottery barn that I really loved. A decent shower curtain was one of the hardest finds!!! But even harder I think, was picking out a color for the walls to blend with the shower curtain! I'm sure Home Depot's paint department hated seeing me at 10:45pm! So indecisive! All-in-all, I am very pleased! Lastly, I just added little touches: wooden bird cage given to me by my MIL, beautiful hydrangeas from our yard, towel and magazine baskets from Marshalls (love discovering affordable, great finds there), old mirror from our garage that was once over our fireplace (so glad I held on to it...Kev is always trying to give things away). We propped the mirror on the vanity instead of hanging it on the wall; I really like the look. Thanks to good friends and great finds....it turned out great! Just try it, one room or project at a time. It will make you much happier with your Home, your Nest. And be smart with your purchases...it doesn't have to cost a fortune! And do it with the ones you love...it brings a sense of accomplishment and teamwork as a couple! <br />

It's been a while since I've blogged! Can you tell the weather is getting warmer here?! I love beach and boat weather! I hope everyone had a beatiful Mother's Day! Kevin and I took our families to brunch for Mother's Day. We were lucky because my Grandmother was in town visiting too! It was great having both of our families together. We will cherish these moments. <br />
<br />
More recenly I've been working on ideas and inspirations for two of my best childhood friends' nurseries! It has been so much fun reconnecting with these ladies! We have just laughed and picked up where we left off! I can remember giggling for hours on end with Lori (the girl is hilarious) and having skating recitals with Seana in our garages....and charging our neighbors to watch us! HAHAH! Great memories! It's so hard to believe that we are old enough to be married...and now babies?! As they say, time flies when you're having fun~<br />
<br />
I am so excited to share these two nurseries with you after they are completed. Seana is having a sweet baby boy. Her bedding is so spunky and the colors are so vibrant! We decide to paint a playful design tree near the crib! Can't wait for you to see the color combos! Lori has decided to make the sex of their baby a surprise to everyone...even themselves! (how is she doing it?!) We are working on sprucing up the room with the extras including a refinished nightstand...AND the lighting~! I am so excited to get another opportunity with a chandelier! Her colors have a soft grey/blue with a punch of Red! Love it ladies! Thank you for giving me the opportunity to make your nurseries my canvas. <br />
<br />
I found a book about decorating nurseries that I just ordered from Serena and Lily. It's called, "Nursery Style 101." I can't wait to get it in the mail. Briefly the book breaks down 4 steps that go into designing your nursery. Step #1-Define your Style (Classic, Vintage, Modern, Ecletic). Step #2-Choose your Palette. Step #3-Furnish your Room. Step #4- Adorn your Nest. I love how the book describes Step #4! "Now it's time for pure fun. Selecting the artwork and accessories for your nursery is another chance to infuse the space with personality and make your mission truly one of a kind. Remeber to stay true to what you love, to what inspires you and holds meaning for you. You'll spend oh-so-many hours staring at these walls. Make sure you'll be gazing at something you love." I could not have said it better myself!<br />
<br />
Photo of 4 generations in our family from Mother's Day 2011: Sweet, isn't it?!<br />

Mommy and baby had a safe and healthy delivery. Praise to you, God. She is just beautiful! Our family is just filled with so much love for this newest addition, especially her big brother! One really neat gift God gave them leading up to this delivery was this tiny bird's nest right outside of Elsie Claire's nursery. While Tina was nesting at home prior to her delivery, she heard sweet birds chirping and babbling outside of the nursery window. When she peeped out the window, she found this nest! How appropriate, right?! I'm sure Tina is sleep deprived, but regardless she is the best Mommy I know! As a mother, I have seen her provide comfort, security, nourishment, love and assurance that "everything will be alright." Often I wonder if I could ever be ready for that right moment in my life. Most days I can't find my keys, how could I care for a baby? For now, I like being "Aunt Jacquie"...</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Especially Momma Bird! I spent a weekend in Augusta working LONG hours with my brother-in-law, sister, mother and sweet nephew getting little Elsie's room together! I just get sucked into these projects once I start them, and before I know it....it's 3am! Although there was much to do in a short weekend, we got it all in!!! But I must say, it looks adorable....and well worth it! Check out some of my favorites...all from The Nest Boutique! <a href="http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Nest-Boutique/174353755933625">http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Nest-Boutique/174353755933625</a><br />

It felt like Spring has Sprung! Too bad we will probably will have several more weeks left of chilly weather....burrrrr! I enjoyed this weekend with many projects in my own nest! We finally purchased a new couch!! And while we were picking it up at Celadon...we found a great deal on a sink and vanity! It just so happens that Celadon was having a sale that we were unaware of when we purchased our couch last weekend, and they offered to give us a refund of the difference of the couch!!! Basically we got the sink and vanity for free with our savings! What a steal right?! As my husband put it, Celadon will have us as a customer for life!<br />
<br />
I spent my busy little Sunday working on "The Nest" projects! After finalizing a class with Mrs. D this week, I attempted a few appliques on my own! What fun! I will be out of control with these appliques before you know it! On a more exciting note, I am a few steps away from having this Nest Chandelier completed, and I must say, I love, Love, LOVE IT! WOW-$20 turned into a masterpiece and a jewel! This is so much more unique than those $300 boutique chandeliers and will go great with Elsie Claire's whimsical owl themed room! Check it out! It all started with a pile of branch trimmings left on the side of the road and a $20 thrift store chandelier! Just wait until I post pics when I get it up in her room next weekend!<br />

Some days this is how I feel, and today is one of those days. Work, schmirk. Worries, schmerries. Blahh, Blahh.</span> <br />
<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Home is where I can relax and try to forget about that "stuff". Nest (n): a place of retreat, rest, or lodging. Nest = my home. Back to a favorite hobby....creative projects. Debating on whether to practice with an applique or ideas for murals in Baby Elsie's room. I wanted to get a chandelier for her nursery as my gift. As I started googling and searching for the perfect chandelier...I quickly realized that chandeliers aren't cheap. I want the chipper chicken Fronk! It's not as though these chandeliers have REAL crystals on them... So I started googling and stubbled upon this....I'm lovin' it! Both options will be super cute and save major bucks! What do you think?! Would this look cute in a nursery with an owl theme? Or have I gone Cooky?!</span><br />

Fitting that she will be named after two very special ladies. Our Grandmothers, her Great-Grandmothers. Last weekend my sister Tina had a beautiful photo shoot with her "tweet" bump, her husband and their adorable son, Ayden. Elizabeth, my youngest sister did an amazing job on their photo session! This weekend Tina and I get to work on many different projects for Elsie Claire: Monogramming any and everything in sight, Painting murals for the nursery, Figuring out how to use appliques on our machines and using our sewing abilities (or lack there of) on some more challenging projects! Can we say little worker bees?! Looking forward to sharing our favorites after our weekend and spending time with her too! Sisters are the best, and I am so glad I was blessed with two! Take a sneak peek at some of Elizabeth's work of Tina's "Tweet" Bump session!<br />

I have a <u>wonderful, loving family</u>. Two "awesome" parents, two great sisters (seesters), an amazing husband, the tweeted nieces and nephews and 2 furry "the most-loved" four legged friends. Not to mention the greatest Grandparents in the world! Hey, we aren't perfect. We bicker and poke, but at the end of the day, we LOVE eachother no matter what. I was also blessed to gain three awesome brother-in-laws and two welcoming sister-in-laws. I couldn't have asked for better "In-laws"! Some go through life with a monster-in-law. I, on the other hand, got "Mrs. D." I must admit at first, I didn't expect our relationship/friendship to grow as strong as it has gotten, but I genuinely enjoy the time we have spent monogramming and sewing together. Today, I won't talk about the amount of time it has taken me and Mrs. D to teach ourselves how to thread a needle, hoop a bag or monogram a name (another day, another blog). But, it has taken us FOREVER to decide on a name for our "business/hobby." After much thought...and critisism, "The Nest" just seemed fitting. Most of the items we enjoy personalizing are for babies, children, mothers, families, homes, decor, etc. All of the most treasured and loved ones that make up a family, your home. Your Nest. We hope that we can expand our items and creativity. I look forward to putting smiles on faces of loved ones and friends! Enjoy some pics of some of my awesome Fam!!</span><br />

I took many art classes in grade school, high school and was even an art major at one point in college. I knew my mother dabbled in crafts throughout her life as well, but recently she has really surprised me...and herself too! We somehow rekindled our mother-daughter relationship through these FUN projects. Regardless how it happened, it feels good! Love you Mom! Check out some of our recent crochet items and photos from our bottles and brushes class from The Looking Glass Art Studio in Summerville, SC. Email us if you are interested in purchasing any of our items! All custom made!</span><br />

When I was younger, I used to doodle on my parent's important bills and papers. I can still hear my mother yelling at me!!! At least I didn't use the walls like my sister. It's so nice to use this as my outlet from the rest of my busy life. When I make time to paint and monogram, I find peace and relaxation....if only I did this full-time!!! Take a peek at some of my recent favorites! As my Grandmother would say, "enjoy". </span><br />
